12. My grass growing in the yard is about 65% mini clover...

Clover sets the nitrogen in the ground also, grows short, drought resistant. I bag the the first months worth of ‘grass clippings’ in the spring for the compost pile. It’s marinating now with a summers worth of banana skins and comfrey. In late spring…turned and screened it’s s great soil.
My grandfather taught me …” grow your dirt first”. He could look at the soil…put a small taste on the tip of his tongue and tell you the ph of the stuff.
Didn’t do the ‘numbers’ but knew the balance and how to fix it if it didn’t ‘taste’ right.
