3. It's true that there's not much to be hopeful or optimistic about.

But please don't give up on your health. I've been there so many times, where I thought I'd sustained an injury or developed a chronic illness that would take all joy away from my life, or stop me from doing the things I love to do--specifically exercise. From a very early age I had the thought that if I couldn't (run, row, lift weights, etc...) I wouldn't want to go on. But I just made myself do these things through the injury or chronic illness, and things would either get better, or the things that haven't gotten better I've learned to live with. This is my personal bias, but I think exercise and movement are so important. Our bodies want to heal. I think our minds give up on us before our bodies do.

I really hope you find your way through this and things start to look up.

For now at least, maybe block out domestic politics. That is a motivation killer. Recreate your life to the best of your ability, making it about the things you enjoy or used to enjoy. Pretend you enjoy them until you really enjoy them. It is hard but doable!
