Back when I worked for Scott Murphy's campaign (2009 and 2010), there were definitely one-issue voters - and they counted on that A rating from the NRA, same as Gillibrand, though she has since changed her stance. The issue here is about Stefanik's "dirty tricks" and the letters I've seen in the paper are mainly accusations about that - including an editorial!
Editorial: Our political parties have become evil enterprises
We are disheartened by the events of this past week when we learned that a national political organization recruited and perhaps trained a 17-year-old high school student in the art of political dirty tricks.
This is what our politics have come to, and anyone who supports it is culpable.
Our morality and any sense of right and wrong our politicians claim to have are at stake here.
We are disgusted, and the they all do it excuse does not make us feel any better.
What once would have been respectable volunteer work for a high school student looking to learn how a democracy works and how a political campaign operates has been tainted by professional operatives looking for any edge to discredit their opponents even if it means using a 17-year-old high school student.
