(32,560 posts)We lost just about everything to a house fire in 2007. There will be people who will want to tell her you have your lives, everything else is just 'stuff'. You can tell her for me not to feel guilty about losing the photos, the heirlooms, the albums, gifts...and it's ok to respond with a fu*k you to anyone who suggests that those losses don't deserve to be mourned.
We moved from Rustic Canyon-- between the Palisades and Santa Monica-- in 1988. Left California for good. The house we left is now on a map of the fire zone. Last night it was a mandatory evacuation area. Tonight I was texting with a friend who used to live in the Hollywood Hills. Her house is in a mandatory evacuation area. The first house I ever owned with my first husband is in Studio City and it is included in the mandatory Hollywood Hills evacuation area.
Hell has come to Los Angeles. Apparently it's a perfect storm of no rain for months, unheard of Santa Ana winds at up to 100 mph and low humidity. Not enough water and not enough firefighters.
My heart goes out to your daughter. I hope you hear from her again soon.
