I know The Guardian had updated their story right before I posted it and I posted the latest at the time (and they are a UK publication). But further down near the bottom is this -

Nicholas Burns, a former US ambassador to China, described Trumps remarks as shameful, adding: We need our allies but are driving them away.

I think the issue is more that 45 and the loon GOP's strategy of "flood the zone" and "move fast and break things", has meant a lot of important details for each of these stories, get pushed to the bottom of the priority for reporting but often bubbles up later once the dust clears.
