45. I think birthright citizenship is safe for the time being but the makeup of 5-4 SCOTUS ruling is rarely irrelevant

The Court itself could change its ruling in the future. The makeup of the Court may change,or a new argument may be made, or perhaps a Justice just changes their mind? One key retirement and appointment could change the landscape of this issue as it did Roe v Wade. Constitutional guarantees are rarely that. To some degree our rights exist at the whim of five black robes. Irrelevant? No, but probably not something to worry about at this time.
