He was a victim long before he became a perpetrator.

To a child, it must have seemed that his family was HUNTED. Indeed they were hunted — by whatever people and/or elements that wanted JFK dead, by paparazzi who couldn’t leave them alone, by stalkers and by people always wanting a piece of their pie.

The nation that adored them in the 1960s is also infused with a nation that hated them; two parts oxygen and one part poison: racists, anti-Catholics, anti-Democrats, anti-do-gooders.

If you grew up Kennedy and searched for ‘the kennedy family’ what would you find? Dramatized hagiographies with envy-inducing photos of a big loving family beset by tragic misfortunes; and competing conspiracy theories about who killed JFK.

He is a free agent now, perhaps possessed by warping demons. I can’t stand him, but the fault lies not in the stars but in ourselves.
