The first thing I look at is - he was 14 when his father died.

Was there a tendency toward importance and narcissism in a family where he may have been treated like a Golden Child? I dunno.

Were there dynamics at play in the family structure where he felt like he wasn't good enough? Perhaps.

Did someone pick on him as a child? I can't think of any obvious suspects...but he shows some signs.

How much did the abyss of drugs take him into his dark places. Likely a lot!

But, the bottom line is - his behavior at this ripe old age is a choice.
