(1,966 posts)Jasmine Crockett is already a House Rep, just like Barbara Jordan was. The key thing here is that in both instances, they were elected in safe blue districts.
Jasmine has never had to run in a competitive race. She has only ever run in safe blue districts. Talarico has actually FLIPPED a solid red district to win his seat. That's the difference.
In order to win a statewide race, Crockett would have to win the majority of votes in red state Texas. Stop and think for a second how DU would be reacting if Jasmine Crockett were the 2028 democratic candidate for president. Would we be excited? Or would we be saying, "oh sht, we're screwed" because no way would she be able to get enough votes from across the country, when we've seen what happened in 2016 and 2024 when Hillary and Kamala Harris had to try to get votes and couldn't overcome sexism and racism even in SWING STATES.
So why are some people so fired up about the idea of her running in a RED STATE? People need to come to grips with reality. If this country would not elect a black woman president because we couldn't get the votes even in SWING STATES, redneck Texas is not going to elect a black woman to the senate, I am sorry to say.
