(1,966 posts)when it comes to Talarico/Crockett is that there are a lot of non-Texans weighing in, and that's fine because the internet is a world wide thing and all, but politics is local. I can have feelings about which candidate I like for California governor, but that's going to be deeply skewed by the fact that I don't live there and may only really be familiar with 1-2 people who have a national profile. And those 1-2 people may not be the ones who are actually best for the job, or who are the ones Californians want.
And same thing here. A lot of the non-Texans weighing in don't seem to have any grasp of Texas politics. I truly wonder how many of us would be excited and THRILLED if Jasmine Crockett was the democratic nominee for president in 2028, or if we would be saying "oh sht, we're sunk" because of how she comes across and her lack of ability to reach across the aisle and build coalitions, or appeal to anyone except far-left voters.
Same thing here.
She is not running in a deep blue state. She is not even running in a safe blue district like she always has before. She is running in red state Texas. Jasmine has never had to run in anything but a safe blue district. James Talarico has FLIPPED a solid red district to win his seat.
So yes, when Texans who actually live in this state, and understand our politics, and are on the ground talking to our friends and neighbors, are telling you the reactions they're getting, it is what it is. Politics is local. Talarico's message connects with voters in this state. People can get offended because he isn't afraid to talk about religion. I personally think his messaging plays to his audience perfectly and is genuine. Might not work in NYC. But it is the exact right messaging for Texas. Jasmine's messaging, her attitude, her brashness, her refusal to apologize when she's said something offensive, these are huge turnoffs, and they will galvanize the right. She will not be able to get votes from the middle, and you have to have that in order to win.
