(17,305 posts)I feel like you are "mansplaining" to me when you ask that question. I sincerely hope that I'm wrong. I'm quite capable of understanding.
Now...perhaps you have misunderstood my comment, or maybe I didn't say it as clearly as I should. It's not her time right now because she filed and joined the race quite a while after Talarico had already been campaigning and had a big following. Her entrance into the race divided the voters' choice. I thought her timing was a mistake. Talarico was already doing quite well.
I also thought that Colin Allred's comments about Talarico (which were made obviously to benefit Crockett) brought a degree of negativity into a race that HAD been quite civil. Civility seems to be why some people like Talarico.
Crockett has also taken money from Henry Cuellar's PAC as well as said she would do away with assault rifles. The latter was the blow that killed Beto's chances. Do *I* want assault rifles banned? Hell yes, I grew up in Uvalde. But Is Texas ready for that at this moment in time? Hell no.
The comment had nothing to do with the fact that she's Black or that she's a woman; it had to do with her timing of entering the race.
No...do you understand what *I'm* trying to say here?
As I said in an earlier post on this thread, if you don't live in Texas, you don't understand the politics. That's just the way it is down here. It's not the typical political atmosphere - particularly not now. Texas is a ginormous state and encompasses lifestyles that some don't even remember exist any more.
Obama won (thankfully!) because he was in a much bigger, broader election area (i.e., the whole country). Of course he didn't win Texas. THIS is Texas down here and we do not have the political capital (yet) to make mistakes. Let's get it turned back to blue and THEN we can press for more.
I feel like Crockett has a bright future, and I hope she does. I will be an ardent supporter IF she wins the primary. But I will also feel that she has little chance of winning the General. I won't show it, but deep down, I'll know. Because I'm a realist, a lifelong Texan, and a lifelong Democrat - and I know how things work in Texas. I'm joined on this thread by several other Texans who have voiced similar mindsets.
You are free to disagree, of course - all the way from Michigan!!!
