to this day Social Security payments are based on a the 35 highest year earnings - so if takes a woman, say, 40 years of lower earnings to make the same amount as a guy did in 35 years, that would not result in equal social security payouts

(note: yes I understand it would work the same if roles were reversed but I'm using the more typical scenario)
