I just watched this on Netflix: The remarkable true story of Lilly Ledbetter

Very well done.

The remarkable true story of Lilly Ledbetter (Patricia Clarkson), a hard-working, tire factory supervisor in Alabama who discovers that she has been paid nearly half of what her male counterparts make. Her ensuing fight for economic justice takes her to the Supreme Court and then Congress, resulting in the landmark Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, signed by President Obama. Lilly was an ordinary person who refused to accept the status quo and had the courage to fight for what was right.

Another clip can be viewed here:

https://www.netflix.com/title/82193714

In court her lawyer asks:

When you started your job how many women were in managerial positions.
Answer: None.
When you were fired from your job, after 19 years and 5 months, how many women were in managerial positions.
Answer: None

Take the time to watch the clips, it is worth your while. No matter what the law says it is still happening today and under trump, it will escalate. Just look how many women his admin is shoving out the door. Hell, he doesn't even want them voting, he wants them barefoot, pregnant and subservient to men.

The watch. I knew nothing about her and watching the movie made me realize that so many women have been unfairly treated and paid less for responsibilities equal to their male counterparts. I worked for local government and started at a clerk or secretary level (later we were upgraded to an assistant position that we fought for). We often made management level decisions. I do believe we were making progress but now with Trump in office, we’re going to lose ground.

She is an amazing woman, and she fought hard and won. She was relentless in her fight for women's rights in the workplace.

And you are right we are losing ground under trump and his regime.

Of course, it continues to a degree. But back then, we were young, and it was "well, that's just the way things are."

to this day Social Security payments are based on a the 35 highest year earnings - so if takes a woman, say, 40 years of lower earnings to make the same amount as a guy did in 35 years, that would not result in equal social security payouts

(note: yes I understand it would work the same if roles were reversed but I'm using the more typical scenario)
