In reply to the discussion: Its time to start arresting ICE agents [View all]stopdiggin
(15,124 posts)55. Sorry - but seems pretty clear that most legal opinion is going in the other direction
Regardless of what Newsom says - he would seem to be swimming upstream on the issue - given that there is relatively strong legal precedent saying that state and local authority cannot arrest (and/or prosecute?, nor proscribe action?) of federal agents/officers while engaged in official acts.
Senate Bill 627, which would prohibit federal officers from wearing masks during their operations, drew the heaviest media coverage and a dismissive response from administration officials.
We dont need to abide by this garbage, Tricia McLaughlin, deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, posted on X.
Bill Essayli, the acting U.S. attorney for the central district of California, said on social media that the new mask law would have no effect on federal operations. Many California law enforcement groups also oppose the law.

I'm certain that some of the ICE agents on these raids are the pardoned J6 insurrectionists.

First enforcement step is to have the ID's of those who violated. The ACLU's probably got the evidence.

Seems logical to me that, since CHP know they report to him, they know he'd fire them if they went against this law.

Sure, but Newsom can still order them not to, unless they're 'under cover' and somehow run into masked up ICE.

Since they're not properly identified they could be arrested with legal justification.
