When Toni Morrison was researching her great book Beloved,
she found that she couldn't find what she needed in the USA.

She had to go to Brazil to find the actual artifacts and truth.

Also, I suspect that Literature of the South now means only
plantation literature about the benevolent masters and the
happy slaves.
