Trump blasts 'out of control' museums for teaching 'how bad Slavery was' in wild rant

trump wants to rewrite history to fit his bigoted and racist views

President Donald Trump ranted on Truth Social that teaching about America's history of slaverery is unacceptable.

Raw Story (@rawstory.com) 2025-08-19T19:16:14Z

https://www.rawstory.com/trump-slavery/

President Donald Trump ranted on Truth Social that teaching about America's history of slaverery is unacceptable.

"The Museums throughout Washington, but all over the Country are, essentially, the last remaining segment of 'WOKE.' The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been — Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future," claimed Trump.

The Smithsonian Museum of African American History walks through the struggles of those who were kidnapped and brought to the United States to work as slaves. However, as one ascends the floors, the exhibits hold up the abolitionist movement, the successes of civil rights, and celebrate those who continue to fight for equal rights.

The GOP president went on to promise, "We are not going to allow this to happen, and I have instructed my attorneys to go through the Museums, and start the exact same process that has been done with Colleges and Universities, where tremendous progress has been made. This Country cannot be WOKE, because WOKE IS BROKE. We have the 'HOTTEST' Country in the World, and we want people to talk about it, including in our Museums," he closes.

Peter (fl. 1863) (also known as Gordon, or "Whipped Peter", or "Poor Peter&quot was an escaped American slave who was the subject of photographs documenting the extensive keloid scarring of his back from whippings received in slavery. The "scourged back" photo became one of the most widely circulated photos of the abolitionist movement during the American Civil War and remains one of the most notable photos of the 19th-century United States.

The photo of the scourged back "spurred a number of different narratives, all of which were intended to illustrate the meaning of his portrait, and privilege his photograph as a means by which to picture slavery and dramatize the need for abolition".

attempts to make 'a deal' among the participants.

As we've seen time and again, whenever he's feeling the sting from the fact that he's FAILING MISERABLY, Trumps first instinct is to lean into the VERY thinly-veiled racism that is at the core of his popularity among the deplorables. And also start playing up the idea that he's actually 'Christian', just like his cultists, hence the 'heaven' comments in an interview today.

We've seen this movie, over and over. His adoring throng never catches on that they're being played, or if they do, they love it.

Tue Aug 19, 2025, 04:01 PM
Aug 2025

The president’s campaign against the Smithsonian Institution was already indefensible. With new false and weird claims, it’s suddenly even worse.

Just when it seemed Trump’s offensive against the Smithsonian couldn’t get more ridiculous, he started whining today about its museums focusing on “how bad Slavery was.” www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Steve Benen (@stevebenen.com) 2025-08-19T20:24:20.849Z

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-complains-woke-smithsonian-focuses-bad-slavery-was-rcna225924

Last week, the White House let the Smithsonian know that it has plans to conduct a far-reaching review of its museums to ensure the content it presents to the public aligns with Trump’s views on American history. It’s against this backdrop that NBC News reported:

Trump voiced outrage this afternoon in a post on Truth Social about the types of exhibits shown in the Smithsonian and other museums across the country. ‘The Museums throughout Washington, but all over the Country are, essentially, the last remaining segment of ‘WOKE.’ The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been — Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future,’ he said.

.....The harangue comes just days after Stephen Miller, the deputy White House chief of staff, falsely claimed that Smithsonian exhibits have “clearly been taken over by leftwing activists” who have “obscenely defaced this beloved institution.”....

What’s more, the idea that exhibits talks about “how bad Slavery was” necessarily leads to questions about which parts of slavery the president believes weren’t “bad.”.....

Over the course of seven months, Trump has taken steps to exert unusual influence and control over everything from the economy to higher education, the judiciary to the media, private businesses to nonprofit organizations, the military to cultural institutions, labor unions to law enforcement, health care to sports teams, independent federal agencies to banks, the legal profession to the entertainment industry.

The president is now making it painfully clear that he has museums in his sights, too.

Making America great again means going back to a time where racial discrimination and oppression was okay. Now trump wants to make America great again by bringing back slavery. trump wants to make America hate again

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-smithsonian-portray-americas-brightness-bad-slavery/story

President Donald Trump on Tuesday confirmed the White House is conducting a review of the Smithsonian museums and expressed frustration over their portrayal of dark parts of America's history, including slavery.

"The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been -- Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future," Trump wrote on his social media platform.

"We are not going to allow this to happen, and I have instructed my attorneys to go through the Museums, and start the exact same process that has been done with Colleges and Universities where tremendous progress has been made," Trump added. "This Country cannot be WOKE, because WOKE IS BROKE. We have the 'HOTTEST' Country in the World, and we want people to talk about it, including in our Museums."

The Smithsonian declined to comment.
