(3,846 posts)Some of them are so angry and cynical that they have no hope, want to make others hurt like they do.- If they are going down, they'll take the rest of us with them. Or at least they'll establish that there are people lower than they are, who they can blame instead of themselves. Like the poor Whites who supported slavery back when. It's not OK to think this way, but when the widening income gap destroys hope it creates desparate people. Like Weimar Germany after WWI.
Some really didn't know what he was going to do. They aren't policy wonks. They don't read between the lines. They're stuck with the beliefs they grew up with, exxacerbated by the Fox bubble. They believe him when he says he won't touch medicaid and Social Security. They think the immigration problem is only rapists and murderers and he'll only be deporting bad guys. Those of us who are paying attention think they should know, but they don't. They are maddeningly ignorant, but not themselves cruel.
But to some degree this is on us. Dems ever moving to the middle. We label universal healthcare as unaffordable and radical, we don't stop hedge funds from buying up the housing stock, and we take the Hispanic vote for granted because we think they'll be logical while the Right funds Spanish speaking radio stations spewing lies.
I'm as mad at Trump voters as anyone, but I'm also mad that Democrats have not created the contrast necessary to keep our voters.
