(21,768 posts)Along with more modern TU-22M's!, better known in the West by their NATO designation, Backfire bombers. The Russian version of the US B-2.. Also some super expensive A-50 early warning aircraft. Roughly the Russian equivalent of US AWACS. Billions upon Billions of USD gone up in flames.
They even hit Olenya Airbase way up in Murmansk! Near the border with Finland and Norway. If they're controlling the drones in real time, Ukrainian assets are way, way, waaaaay deep in Russian territory or they're doing some interesting stuff with EU orbital defense systems. Probably the later. I doubt they'd be allowed to do that using US assets. Real time drone control is line of sight, unless you're using aircraft or satellites to relay the control feed and return feed. All the way up in the Murmansk region means satellites. Huge, huge escalation. I'd say the Europeans threw down the gauntlet.
