We got our electricity back today - managed to salvage about half of what was in the refrigerator. And from growing up on a farm, I know what it means to live in a place where everything (water included) requires electricity (to flush toilets, wash hands, shower) and how to get by for a few days. They pulled in crews from Pennsylvania and Michigan to get things back up and running. They are now mostly down to isolated streets where a tree took out power lines. We were in two overlapping sections - each with around 2000 homes out until today, and a third not quite overlapping with another 1500 or so. And a few areas still have hundreds of homes without power. It took out a swath about 10 miles wide and 30 miles long. Massive tree damage (which accounts for most of the power outage - and I'm sure there is a lot of home damage, as well).

I'm just cranky that news reports about a storm system which simultaneously hit quite a few states only mentions one or two - not even an honorable mention for others who were also hit.
