4. About as much as anything that happened outside of Kentucky or St. Louis has been noticed by anyone . . .

We've had 55,000+ out of power for the last 2 days, mostly in Summit County, Ohio. Crickets, since no one was killed (at least not directly, anyway).

Crickets.

And his complicit scum in the media will make sure of it.

11. My point is that it isn't just FEMA.

There's tons of chatter about Kentucky and St. Louis. I have yet to hear of a mention on anything other than local news about the significant days-long power loss in Ohio. So it' not just Trump, and it's not just FEMA.

Are they trying to minimize the extent of the damage? If so, then why? Or maybe they are just lazy.

13. Ms. Toad, have you read any of Sarah Kendzior's books?

All of her books speak to that American attitude about poor states. She actually lives in St. Louis. I bet The View From Flyover Country gets even more specific.
I think we are all guilty of the false pride we have about where we live and how it is better than where other people live.
I'm sorry for your suffering, I live in NE and fear every time it rains anymore.

We got our electricity back today - managed to salvage about half of what was in the refrigerator. And from growing up on a farm, I know what it means to live in a place where everything (water included) requires electricity (to flush toilets, wash hands, shower) and how to get by for a few days. They pulled in crews from Pennsylvania and Michigan to get things back up and running. They are now mostly down to isolated streets where a tree took out power lines. We were in two overlapping sections - each with around 2000 homes out until today, and a third not quite overlapping with another 1500 or so. And a few areas still have hundreds of homes without power. It took out a swath about 10 miles wide and 30 miles long. Massive tree damage (which accounts for most of the power outage - and I'm sure there is a lot of home damage, as well).

I'm just cranky that news reports about a storm system which simultaneously hit quite a few states only mentions one or two - not even an honorable mention for others who were also hit.

I have a first-cousin once-removed in Kansas - she was already terrified by tornadoes when they were hit with one a few years ago (and no basement - just a concrete pad). We had one in our back yard in Nebraska when I was 10-12-ish (we had a root cellar there for shelter).

What went through here two days ago was just extremely strong winds - no significant twisting. One large branch on a maple tree in our side yard was twisted off - it seemed to be just the angle of the wind and the position of the branch relative to it on the tree.
