Beef prices, in particular, are up by around 2/3 from a year ago - or twice as much as the 1/3 official rise in overall prices.



The butcher's explaining that his customers mostly ask for pork and chicken instead (which are cheaper).

The gray-haired customer recounts how he used to be able to buy his favorite cut - flank steak - but can't often any more.

The market analyst explains that Argentines are shifting toward poultry in a way not seen since the 2001 collapse.

And the senior gent laments that his only option lately is to substitute beef with "something more economical."
