Think of it this way:

Your mother's name is Mary.

Your father says, "Mary's son..." when he is referring to you.

It would make me feel like he was disavowing that he was my father.

There are these strange ways he refers to people, as well as to himself--like when he refers to himself as "trump," in the recent inflammatory statement he made about Rob Reiner.
