8. Why does our history seem to think the Mayflower brought the first illegal immigrants to what became the u.s.?

The Spaniards started coming in the early 1500's and had taken over much of what is now the south and southwest with thriving colonies by the time the english began to get their foot on this continent. The english had two failed colonies before the pilgrims landed here, and that colony also came close to failure, if it hadn't been for some indigenous people helping them out.
