As Rome declined, insane emperors made ludicrous claims about themselves, taxed the common people to death while they lived in extreme wealth, put their faces and statues in public everywhere, and established fights for public entertainment on their birthdays and holidays. The Roman Senate became powerless. NO one dared disagree with the emperor. Governance crumbled like an old stone wall.

Now we get to see in real life what such a government is like.

Hope we are more successful in stopping the decline than conscientious Roman citizens were.
