From the video, it seems pretty clear that the woman didn't think the man was trying to steal her child when the incident occurred. She sure got a lot of media and public attention after she reported an attempted kidnapping to the police, though.

Also, the prosecutor tried to keep the defense lawyer from getting a copy of the Walmart video. I wonder why. Who knows how much longer Mr. Patel would have spent behind bars if that video hadn't been released.
