Military veterans, my wife and I both retired from the Air Force and no longer move in those circles, we both had careers after we retired. Theres a boatload of vets in AZ, you can tell because they all sport the veteran license plate and stickers and ball caps proclaiming their service. Most probably spent 2-4 years and got out. Most are older than us (60s) and still want someone to thank them for their service. I cringe when I am thanked.
I dont feel that my service defined me, it refined me. I grew up learning manners and to follow the golden rule. The military showed me that WE, Americans, are supposed to take care of each other not just go around breaking shit and killing people.
When I got stationed here as my last assignment, I thought that at least McCain supported the military. I was wrong, he supported defense contractors. He was asked about that and said to the effect that he supported military members by making sure they had the best equipment in the world. I lost any respect I may have had for him right there.
As for what I would say, probably nothing, just shake my head and walk the other way: you cant fix stupidity and trying to reach inside 40 years of hate radio and faux newz and talk sense into the folks who constantly vote against their own best interest is too taxing.
Sorry for the long screed, cheers
