These Republican Attorneys General want more teen pregnancies - Velshi - MSNBC [View all]

Three Republican attorneys general from Idaho, Kansas, and Missouri are seeking to revive a lawsuit over mifepristone, which the Supreme Court dismissed in June due to lack of standing. In their amended complaint, they argue that expanded access to abortion pills has lowered teen pregnancy rates, reducing the states' populations and potentially costing them a House seat and future federal funding.

Once opposed to teen pregnancies, Republicans are now claiming a state interest in forced births. “We’re at a point where conservative attorneys general are actually arguing that preventing teen pregnancies harms their states- it’s really remarkable,” says Mary Ziegler, a law professor and historian at UC Davis Law School. This only “underscores the stakes of the election,” she adds, noting Trump could elevate extremist judges. - Aired on 10/27/2024.
