But it's a fair question.
The thing is that DU is up high for hits - when you link here to there or vice versa - you get more traction. They could also keep their membership low but advertise off of site hits. If they are - it's clever strategy.
Regardless - its a cesspool of vile disgusting people who - I'm stunned at what I read in the profile from there that was c/p'd to DU. And that someone would physically threat BainsBane with sexual violence? For me to alert on someone - as I did on this thread - takes a lot. I also "own" my alerts publicly.
This isn't the political process - its a web forum. Ditto Discussionst. Time to make the jury and alerters fully transparent. If it will stop people from participating in juries for fear that there will be retaliation - then that is a site culture problem that needs to be addressed.
For everything one gains - there is something lost. I truly believe that. What is gained by the existence of Discuassionst (spelling is on purpose btw)? Who knows? What's lost? It's pretty clear to me.
However - it has opened up a vacuum - a sweet spot on the Internet . . .
