Occupy Underground
In reply to the discussion: Fire, ellisonz & pinboy marched together in L.A. Sunday for Trayvon Martin (PHOTOS) [View all]Leopolds Ghost
(12,875 posts)Occupy was supposed to have a convergence here this month and it's very sparse. A lot of locals I meet ("independent minded" affluent liberals) talk about how they supported Occupy until they "overstayed their welcome". I tried to explain that was the idea
Of course that's to be expected on the East Coast. It's like in Seattle where they encouraged somepony to "jump" because their bridge suicide attempt was blocking traffic... keeping the trains moving on time, that's all a lot of people seem to care about... people with high-paying stable jobs who own all the houses and vote. Social issues is the only thing keeping them "liberal Democrats" which is why it's so juicy that the Republicans have decided to wage war on women's rights. (One of the same people I mentioned above went on to say how furious their entire family was at the Republicans.) Also it seems like the black community here is a lot more conservative than out there in LA... a lot. Heck, I even had a conversation with an African American friend who isn't too sure that Trayvon didn't pose a threat to Zimmerman.
