intro class on evolution and types of social structures, were from a professor whose specialty was Native American religions. His own field studies focused on religions of the US Southwest, but he taught about several other religious views and practices in the Americas, including those of the Maya and Aztecs, which were/are different from tribal societies. Other courses covered some tribal religious practices in New Guinea and western Africa.

Very different views of nature and the place of humans within it from our Western religions. Tribal societies were/are more dependent on nature, so their religions reflect the interaction between humans and the natural world.
