Allowing an exception to noise laws for religious reasons - used to set a standard to what people can do to disrupt the rest of the neighborhood - is simply ridiculous. I don't necessarily like the church bell either, but that's 20 seconds, not an hour.

So all the nearby residents have to listen to Muslim prayers blasted across loudspeakers?

The new initiative, launched by the NYPD, clarifies the call to prayer is allowed in New York City and “not prohibited despite sound restrictions in city neighborhoods,” the release said.
