"fundamentalists of all stripes need to try and force the rest of us back to an unspecified time in the past, when inside their very confused fundamentalist brain things were ‘simpler’ and ‘purer’ than they are today in this sin ridden world of ‘sex, drugs and rock and roll.'"

What they would find if they actually did go back would be people much like them, decrying the evil sinful present age, seeking a return to purer times. One need only read literature from various eras in the past to learn that every generation has members who see the current age as an abomination.

This current crop seems to think that the 1950s was some kind of cultural utopia. Rational, reasonable people with any knowledge of that era know that it was anything but. And, this crop would find their counterparts, decrying the whole era as decadent, sinful, evil, probably wishing for a return to the Victorian period.
