Oct 2012

Miguel Cabrera, third baseman for Detroit Tigers, achieved this rare feat effective with the conclusion of MLB's regularly scheduled 2012 season on 10.03.2012.

According to his page at Wikipedia.org: "In 2012, Cabrera became the first player since [Boston Red Sox's] Carl Yastrzemski in 1967 to win the Triple Crown. Cabrera led the American League with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs, and 139 RBIs."

Before Yastrzemski, the batting triple crown was achieved by Frank Robinson of Baltimore Orioles in 1966.

Robinson and Yastrzemski both won the American League (AL) MVP award from the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Also: Both Triple Crown champs' teams won their league pennant for those specific years. As of 10.18.2012, at 11:40 a.m. ET, Detroit Tigers are 3 to New York Yankees 0 for the best-of-seven games of the 2012 AL Champsionship Series which will determine the winning team for the league pennant.
