Can I talk about JJ Wetherholt? [View all]

He's a yinzer 1st of all, I wrestled at Mars Area High school back in the day and it wasn't a long bus ride there either. Just one county north of my HS.

So I was already rooting for the kid.

The buzz started in 2024, JJ's 1st year in the minors.

He rose through Rookie Ball, Low A, High A in 1 season

Started 2025 in Double A Springfield playing shortstop and second base.

Through 62 games, he slashed .300/.425/.466 with 7 home runs and 14 stolen bases. He was also selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game.

Finished in Triple A Memphis and continued to shine - Finished his 2025 season with a .306 average, 17 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases across the 2 levels.

In other words, his half season in Triple A was better than the half season in Double A

Played Winter Ball, won the MVP

Called up this season, became the leadoff hitter in game 1 and remains a top 5 leadoff hitter in MLB. On Base Pecentage north of .360, 12 HRs OPS+ 120

He is also the best defensive 2nd baseman in Baseball. Leads all players in Outs Above Average, he is rated 100th percentile by Baseball Savant

He is 23.

It's a great time to be a Cardinals fan
