Why have rules when there are bad umpires? [View all]

I like the new ABS system this season, and it doesn't take time away from the game. Now I wish there were a quick way to settle other bad calls.

Today, a runner (happened to be a Bluejay) deviated more than 3 feet from the path from 1st to 2nd to avoid a tag (happened to be an Oriole), and the umpire called him safe, not out. The Oriole reached to tag, but needed to throw to 1st for a double play to end the inning and couldn't chase the runner 'playing tag' way off the path. (He said later he figured it would be called an out.)

The inning went on and the Orioles, angry and frustrated, never quite recovered. As it happened, the Bluejays overcame the O's 4-1 lead to end that inning with 5 runs. They got one more to win the game 6-4. As these two teams are neck-and-neck in the AL East (neither at the top), this was a consequential call.

Couldn't there be a quick way to trace the straight line between bases electronically, or appeal to another ump with a line of sight on the play? If they can "call NY" to check other safe/out calls, why not this rule? Frustrating.
