The Giants have to win a game at some point, right? [View all]

Giants out to historically bad start defending title - CSNBA

The San Francisco Giants are the reigning world champions, but they aren't out to a strong start defending that title.

In fact, at 3-8 through 11 games, they are out to the sixth worst start for a defending champion in baseball history.

The 1998 Marlins did it the worst, starting their 1998 title defense with a 1-11 record and finishing the season with a 54-108 record -- last in the majors and 52 games out of first place.

Through 11 games:

1998 Florida Marlins -- 1-10
1984 Baltimore Orioles -- 2-9
1964 Los Angeles Dodgers -- 2-9
1947 St. Louis Cardinals -- 2-9
1926 Pittsburgh Pirates -- 3-8
2015 San Francisco Giants -- 3-8

Through 12 games:

1998 Florida Marlins -- 1-11
1984 Baltimore Orioles -- 2-10
1947 St. Louis Cardinals -- 2-10
1964 Los Angeles Dodgers -- 3-9
1926 Pittsburgh Pirates -- 3-9
2015 San Francisco Giants -- ?
