Of course, it had been built as a minor league stadium in 1956, with an initial capacity of less than 20,000. They continued to renovate and expand, and it eventually held almost 46,000.

The first game I saw there was in 1963. The right field and left field seats, as well as the those down both lines past the infield were still just wood plank bleachers.
