I remember reading something about him back during Obama's presidency when Congress was debating what to do about the Bush tax cuts that were getting ready to expire. Mickelson said something like he was considering retiring rather than to be pushed into a higher tax bracket where he made more money but would have to pay more taxes and would have lower take-home pay than someone in a lower bracket.

The insinuation being that his ENTIRE income would be taxed at the higher rate. He is ignorant of how marginal tax brackets work, as are a lot of Americans.
