It’s a much more recent than the cave dwellers she cited. Just think about Victorian canopy beds. Nowadays canopy beds are strictly decorative, but you may remember Ebenezer Scrooge’s bed had drapes, suspended from a canopy frame. That was to keep warm during sleep. And of course, the same principle is demonstrated with people who climb Everest, with tiny nylon tents.
