Veterans

I dropped by the Cav's Ia Drang reunion that year to see if I could find anyone who knew a friend of mine who was KIA shortly before X-Ray (and I found 2 guys who were with him when he died). Galloway and Moore were signing books and I had my copy with me, so...

Then the Ia Drang vets went in for their banquet so I repaired to the bar and was drinking beer with a couple of their vets who skipped it. It turned out that my drinking companions were Ernie Savage and Doc Loos of the Lost Platoon, and they signed my book, too.

A friend who just retired as editor of the local newspaper here got his first reporting job when Joe Galloway hired him at UPI. They still stay in touch and I keep reminding my friend that we need to get Joe out to speak at one of our local veterans' events. That's still a work in progress--wish me luck!
