The Post does NOT provide any data showing the rate of opioid use/addiction over time. The Post does NOT deal clealy with the other substances taken in conjunction with opioids, esp. alcohol. Some studies describe the deaths-due-to-opioids as primarily edema, usually associated with extreme and overwhelming alcohol abuse (endemic to the heroin community). Over all, drinking is on the rise in the U.S. This is important to consider when assessing any addiction rates and societal trends.
