Assault Weapon: A semi-automatic firearm capable of accepting magazine fed ammunition with certain irrelevant cosmetic or ergonomic features.

Certain handguns and shotguns were also part of the federal AWB back in the day, IIRC. And we know the GrabNutz will go after those as well. (A .50 caliber Desert Eagle can shoot down a passenger jet from 30,000 feet!!! Ban it!!!)
