3. The police have no legal responsibility to protect you

Castle Rock v. Gonzalez and a bunch of other SCOTUS decisions have determined that, unless you are in police custody, they can not be held legally responsible for your protection.

"To Serve and Protect" is a nice slogan on the door of a squad car, but has no real legal teeth.

So it's not really a meme, its a fact.
