The Times-Mirror could not find any vendor who required a background check for purchasing firearms, even semi-automatic handguns or rifles.

Several unlicensed dealers walked the floor with automatic rifles strapped to their backs, “for sale” signs inserted into the barrels.

Vendors at last weekend’s show required the obligatory two forms of identification -- a valid Virginia driver’s license and a credit card -- to purchase any gun at the show.

~~~They know who their readers are. The person who wrote this should be laughed out of their job.~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Someone has never been to a gun show if they think it's the only show where you can renew an NRA membership or join the NRA.
I don't know about other states but Va requires a State Police background check along with the 4473.
You also can't buy without two actual forms of ID.
Other than a few pictures, I really doubt the writer actually attended this or any other gunshow, it reads like he took bloombergs talking points puked them back out as truth.
