5. You do know that they weren't actually winning those suits, right?

The cities and individuals that tried suing the gun makers for illegal use of a legal product weren't actually winning anything.

Their goal was to use mounting legal fees to try and bankrupt the gun manufacturers. Of course there was a problem because some of the same companies they were trying to bankrupt have big government contracts for military firearms. The folks on Capitol Hill came to the "brilliant" realization that there might be nobody left to make their M4s, M9s etc. Catch 22.

Now the cities are paying the NRA, SAF et. al. millions in legal fees for all the cases being lost in the courts.
