17. You generally have to be 21 to get a pistol permit

I know you have to be 21 to purchase a pistol.

In the letter he states that he teaches Into to MicroEconomics to 18 year olds. How, exactly, are these freshmen college students going to get a concealed carry permit AND a handgun to carry?

Obviously, the answer is they aren't going to get a permit or a legal handgun. So the "risk" he's facing now is exactly the same as then: murderously angry student illegally obtains a handgun and illegally carries it concealed onto campus to shoot him.

In order for this professor to be at increased risk, the following must all be true:

1) a student pays the money and takes and passes a concealed-carry class;
2) this student then applies to the police department for a concealed-carry permit;
3) this student buys a handgun, probably from a federally-licensed dealer who performs a background check;
4) this student is approved for the permit, which means he has no criminal history;
5) this student begins carrying routinely;
6) this student then gets so enraged about something the professor does that the instant access to a concealed pistol that he has lets him gun down the teacher on the spot.

I'm not seeing it, but then it's been proven time and time again that humans have mediocre ability to judge threats to themselves. This professor is far, far more likely to die in his car commuting to his job in Austin than being gunned down by an angry student. Yet he somehow decides to take a job in a place with cars.
