BOAC & Pan Am began jet service over the Atlantic in 1958. BOAC used the Comet & PanAm used the 707.
The SS United States had 6 years to be dominant, especially since planes like the Boeing 307 only carried about 30 people & was expensive.
Ships were still the deal for crossing oceans.
