a wood-based pellet kind, I think Nature's Best. Most cats seem to like it and it's easy to clean, also doesn't smell. I recommend it. I used to use something called "Yesterday's News" that was made of recycled newsprint and was also pellet-like. It was stinkier though easy to clean. I really like the pine. Some people recommend crystals for his kind of problem, like Pretty Litter, but they are expensive. Try the pine type. You can probably get it at your local co-op, or if you have a Tractor Supply nearby.
