His behavior doesn't change, much. He still likes to play, his appetite is good and his litter box use hasn't really changed. There's no swelling or tenderness.

I'm beginning to think the licking makes what ever is happening MUCH more irritated. He just had another dose of the steroid and I have no doubt he will be back to normal within an hour. Then I'll just keep an eye on him. He likes to take his naps on my lap, which makes things much easier. Not particularly productive, but easier.
