I've also learned to wait to put on my coat until AFTER I get him in the carrier. If I'm wearing a coat and try to pick him up, he's pretty much tuned in to what's about to happen and a through the house chase ensues.

The good thing is, if I have to leave him for a while, I'm only about a 5 minute drive from the office.
